Achievements» Biomass Fixed Chulhas With Chimney
- Application :
Improved low cost fixed chulhas (cook stove) are used for cooking in complete smoke & pollution free environment with reduced fuel consumption. Biomass, Agro-waste and dung cake etc., burn in the chulhas for cooking at high thermal efficiency (25%), which saves 40% fuels over the traditional chulhas. Exhaust gases release outside through a chimney to maintain the kitchen free from smoke or hot gas. The chimney protrudes through the wall or roof of the kitchen as per local conditions and de-carbonisation of the chimney..
- Raw Materials:
Pre-fabricated terracotta simple components, clay, and asbestos cement pipe.
- Process Features:
Fuels burn completely due to continuos flow of air over the char and unburnt fuels in the hearth of the chulha by the suction effect of the chimney. Hot flue gas or smoke does not leak into the kitchen due to low pressure in the chulha. Flame and hot flue gas always glide over bottom surface of the cook pot inside the stove before it is released to the chimney, resulting to high rate of heat transfer from the flame to cook pot. Simple design with cylindrical combustion chamber of the chulha facilitate for ease construction, high thermal efficiency, care free use and high acceptability among the users.
- Market:
100 millions/year
- Status of Commercialisation:
Commercialised by MNES, Govt. of India, OREDA, KVIC, and State Govt. Agency, NGOs etc. More than 3.00 million unit’s stoves have been disseminated since 1990.
