RRL organized the CSIR Programme on Youth Leadership in Science (CPYLS) – 2006 for the 10th Std. pass outs from CBSE, ICSE and Orissa Board in the year 2006. Ninety-four students from allover Orissa, along with their parents/teachers, attended the programme held during 19-20 December 2006.

Padmabhushan (Prof.) Trilochan Pradhan, Former VC, Utkal University and Former Director, Institute of Physics at Bhubaneswar inaugurated the program. Dr. V.P. Upadhyay (Addl. Director. MOEF), Dr. N. Dey (Scientist, Institute of Life Science, Bhubaneswar) and Dr PR Mohanty (MD, Heavy Water Plant, Talcher) were the invited speakers for the event. Prof. B.K. Mishra Director, RRL and Drs. R.K. Paramguru, S.N. Das, K.M. Parida, B.B. Nayak – Scientists from RRL, also addressed the participants. The speakers covered advances and career opportunities in the areas of Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Material Sciences and Nuclear Sciences and conducted demonstrations.

The participants visited various research facilities of RRL, interacted with the speakers and scientists and took part in the Quiz Competition on Frontiers of Science, arranged by the personnel of Heavy Water Plant, Talcher.

Rama Rao, Dr. Brahma Prakash Distinguished Professor, National Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy & New Materials (ARC), Hyderabad. and Chairman, Research Council, RRL was the Chief Guest for the Valedictory Function and gave away prizes to the winners of the quiz competition. Prof. B.K. Mishra, Director, RRL Chaired the function and distributed participation certificate and group photograph to all the participants.
