Scientist of the Month
Ms. Barsha Dash is working as a Scientist in H&EM department since 2007. She joined IMMT in 2003 as Project Assistant and then as a SRF in IMMT in 2007. She passed her M.Sc in Chemistry from Sambalpur University in 2001. She is conitinuing her Ph.D in Chemistry from Sambalpur University, Orissa.

Research Area:
Precipitation of hydrated alumina from different sources, studies on enhancement in productivity and purity of boehmite and gibbsite precipitation from sodium aluminate liquor, preparation of value added products from spent catalysts. Apart from this researches on leaching of medium to low grade ores of Al, Mn, Cu, Co and Mo, Adsorbtion of toxic heavy metals like Cu, Cd, and Pb on synthetic materials as well as on tailings.

Achievements :
  1. Qualified CSIR- NET (Lectureship) twice both in June2004 and December 2004.
  2. Qualified GATE-2005 with 93.55 percentile
  3. Qualified CSIR-SRF-2007
Current Projects:
  1. Development and design of diaphragm less cells for electrolytic acid killing, IGCAR, Kalpakkam.
  2. Net work project Development of advanced eco-friendly and energy efficient processes for utilization of iron ore resources of in India.
  3. Major laboratory project Waste to Wealth.
  4. Laboratory scale study on alumina trihydrate productivity using catalyst, NALCO, Bhubaneswar.
  5. Preparation of SiC from rice husk by thermal plasma, DRDO, Kanpur

  • A Process for Production of Crystalline Boehmite by Precipitating from Supersaturated Sodium aluminate Liquor under Atmospheric conditions at a Temperature as low as 50oC.
