    DESCRIPTION :

    Dr Sanjib Das completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after completing M.Sc. in Chemistry from Banaras Hindu University. He worked for more than five years as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the various world class institutions like University of Heidelberg in Germany, National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan, Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel prior to join at CSIR-Institute of Minerals & Materials Technology (IMMT) as a Scientist in March 2012. He has achieved a vast expertise in the field of Organic Driven Materials Science combining Supramolecular Host-Guest Chemistry, Opto-Electronic and Luminescent Sensor Materials, Stimuli-Responsive Molecular Switches and Nanoparticles, Conducting Polymers, Porous Organic and Metal-Organic polymeric Materials, Catalysis, and so on. He is recipient of prestigious and highly competitive "NIMS Researcher" and "Dean of Faculty" postdoctoral fellowship from Japan and Israel. He qualified National Eligibility Test in chemical science and Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (All India rank 111). He has published in several very high impact international journals from Wiley, ACS, RSC publishers. Currently, he has been working as a Principal Scientist at Materials Chemistry Department, CSIR-IMMT and his present research focus on the rational synthesis of functional Porous Organic Polymeric materials and composites with different topology and structural order combining  nanometer range porosity using organic- and nano-chemistry as major driving tools towards small gas (CO2/SOx/NOx/H2/CH4) capture/separation/conversion, detection and removal of toxic organic/inorganic micropollutants from contaminated water/air, energy storage (battery/supercapacitor), opto-electronic and heterogeneous electro-photo-redox catalytic applications (HER/ORR/NRR/OER).

    AREA OF INTEREST :
    Our ongoing research activities mainly focus on rational synthesis of functional Porous Organic Polymers (POPs) including their electrically coupled hybrid porous materials adopting both molecular engineering and nano-chemistry approaches using different predesigned organic building moieties and metal nanostructures. The resulted porous materials are capable of addressing challenging social issues in the domain of energy, environment, and industry. The design and synthetic strategy comprises basic knowledge of organic macromolecular chemistry and nanomaterials including in some cases lesson from biological phenomenon. Currently, we have been working in the following domains below:
    • Rational design and synthesis of Functional POPs for high-density electrochemical energy storage (Battery, Supercapacitor, Fuel cell)
    • POPs as high-throughput electrocatalysts  for Oxygen Reduction, Oxygen & Hydrogen Evolution, and Nitrogen Reduction    
    • High density storage of energy gases (hydrogen and methane) as well as capture of greenhouse gases such as CO2, SOx, NOx including their catalytic conversion into value-added products
    • Synthesis of semiconducting and/or photo-redox active POPs scaffolds and composites for electro-photo-redox catalytic applications
    • "Smart" adsorptive luminescent POPs for both sensing and removal of organic and inorganic micropollutants from contaminated water/air
