DESCRIPTION :
Mr. Nigamananda Ray is a scientist in Mineral Processing Department at the CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar. He has obtained his B.Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela in the year 2010. He has completed his Master of Technology in Material Resource Engineering from Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR) in the year 2013. He has more than 3 years of R&D experience in the area of extractive metallurgy research. During his R&D tenure, he has involved as project leader/team member in several grant-in-aid and sponsored/consultancy projects. His area of specialization is thermodynamics and kinetics study of pyrometallurgical process. Presently, he is working on process development for the production of titania slag from ilmenite through an energy efficient process. This studies includes the comminution of ilmenite in ball mill followed by pelletisation. Subsequent solid state reduction of pellet using muffle or rotary tube furnace and finally smelting of reduced ilmenite in arc furnace to produce chloride/sulphate grade titania slag. He is also involved in teaching of unit operations to Post-Graduation Diploma in Mineral Engineering (PGDME) students of AcSIR and supervising their project works. He has published two peer-reviewed articles in International journals and 2 International conferences to his credit.
