Dr. Santosh kumar Behera
completed Ph.D. in Electrical (Control) Engineering from National Institute of
Technology (NIT), Rourkela after obtaining B.E. in Instrumentation Engineering
from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (Deemed University
Established by MHRD Govt. of India), Punjab. Now, he is working as Principal
Scientist at process Engineering and Instrumentation Department of
CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar. Prior to his
joining CSIR-IMMT, he was working at Wind tunnel of National Trisonic Aerospace
facility Department, CSIR-NAL, Bangalore from 2004 to 2007. He has been
undertaking research on interdisciplinary field of research in mineral
processing instrumentation that would have a strong direct impact to the
industry as well as scientific society. He has filed 4 patents and published 33 papers in international journal and conferences. He has executed 12 projects as
principal investigator, 4 projects as co-principal investigator and 33 projects
as a member. He is fellow of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication
Engineers (IETE) & Institute of Engineers. He received the prestigious IETE (The Institution of
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers) – Hari Ramji Toshniwal Award
(2022) on 25th September 2022 at 65th Annual IETE Convention held at
Hyderabad for his excellent contribution to the development and
commercialization of two unique industrial instruments for use in iron ore
pelletization plant automation. He received IIME Mineral Excellence award at
Bhubaneswar in 2022.He also received a prestigious National Instrument
Engineering Impact Awards (Runners up) under system category in the year of
2014 at Bangalore. He has been adjudged for the best poster presentation of the
Dept. of Electrical Engineering, NIT, Rourkela at the Research Scholars Week
2016.
He developed two novel industrial instrument
named as EYE-ON-PELLET (Online pellet size
monitoring system) and EXPERT EYE-ON-PELLET (Pelletization Disc Control System) for Pelletization Industry.
The EYE-ON-PELLET and EXPERT EYE-ON-PELLET technology licenses were
transferred to M/S SVNT Infotech Pvt. Ltd. Hyderabad for production and
marketing. Both technologies were commercialized at JSW Steel Limited PP1, PP2, Vidyanagar
and BMM Ispat, Hospete, Karnataka through SVNT Infotech Pvt. Ltd. Hyderabad. These two indigenously
developed instruments are competitive both in quality and price with foreign
brands. This activity supported Atmanirbhar Bharat through import substitution
as these are very high value equipment, thereby saving significant amount of
foreign currency. Such industrial monitoring and control system development
capability would help Indian industries in digitalization for industry 4.0
standard.
His research interests include Industrial Instrumentation and Control, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Active Noise Control, and LabVIEW based soft sensor development.
